Bongkwan Ku (also known as BK) was born in Busan, South Korea in 1977. His earliest memories are of drawing. “I was just little boy who was just happy with a piece of paper and pencil or a paint brush in my hand." He just loved drawing and painting and his love of art became his passion.
In 2002 BK visited Broken Hill in Outback NSW, and fell in love with it. He decided to migrate to Australia and lived in Broken Hill for a number of years experiencing all that the Australian Outback Art culture offered and gained a love of the light and colour of the area.
BK became a part of the Broken Hill art community, exhibiting at a number of local galleries, and became well known amongst the local community. Many people in Broken Hill can boast to owning a “BK”.
BK exhibited at Greenhill Galleries in Adelaide, as well as being a regular exhibitor at the Loreto Art show in Adelaide.
After moving to Sydney BK worked on a number of private commissions as well as entering the Mosman Art Prize and “bentART” Blue Mountains Annual Art Prize 2013/2014.
BK describes his work as light but bold, and tries to convey both the gentle and the strong by playing with big brush strokes as well as fine lines and colours and textures, using rice paper, water colours or acrylics
